Senior people (aged 60+) are known to suffer from 5-15 chronic diseases, which are often interrelated and lower life expectation and life quality. The list of the most often conditions includes cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, heart angina, cardiac insufficiency, pathology of brain blood vessels, cholesterol metabolism problems), endocrine diseases (diabetes mellitus, thyroid pathology), locomotor diseases (osteochondrosis of the spine, arthroses), malignancies. Majority of our senior patients have a combination of cardiovascular, endocrine and locomotor conditions. Besides these conditions are often a reason for phycological problems, with our patients feeling lonely, down, depressed and anxious. Unfortunately even regular acute conditions, such as respiratory infections and stomach problems are usually atypical and troublesome for seniors. So geriatrics is a separate medical field studying diseases of seniors, and developing treatment protocols to cure them.

First visit always begins with detailed interview with the patient, study of medical records (previous tests and results) and a conversation with family members. Additional diagnostics and therapy control measures include electrocardiography (ECG), 24-hour (Holter) ECG monitoring, ultra-sound investigations of kidneys, thyroid, heart (echocardiography), study of lung ventilation, digital chest, spine and joints x-ray shoots, endoscopic examination of the esophagus, the stomach, and the duodenum, etc. Labwork usually takes up to 30 min - we need this time to perform blood tests (to assess biochemistry panel, blood coagulation time, electrolytes, etc.) and urine test. After all the lab tests are done, our MD arrives at diagnoses, works out plan of treatment and explains it to the patient in details. Sometimes adjusting of drag type and dosage may take several months due to individual requirement of the patient. Therefore, follow-up visits are inevitable. The patient can reach his or her doctor at any time to consult on any problem by cell phone; this provides psychological comfort to the patient.

Success of treatment can be guaranteed only if relatives of the patient provide with him full psychological support. None of the brilliant and cutting-edge medical methods would be effective without attention of darling people being granted to senior family members.
